Breaking beyond the boundaries of shoegaze and dream pop, Beachside Talks is a band helping to lead Japan’s indie music scene.
Through a project by the San Francisco–based music label Tokyo Beatniks Record Label, known for its love of Japanese pop culture and indie music, the band’s first full-length album Hokorobi—released as a coming-of-age story concept album—will now be issued on 12-inch vinyl.
The album features 13 tracks, including some of the band’s signature songs such as “Big Sky” and “Dream Up!”, as well as “Cassis,” “Whisper of the Heat,” and “Seagazer,” which reinterpret the increasingly popular heavy shoegaze sound with a more pop-oriented approach. It also includes “mizuiro,” a track that boldly shifts rhythmic style and leans toward emo rap, showcasing the band’s wide-ranging musical diversity.
